Chinese firms in Venezuela donate over 115 tonnes of aid after powerful quakes

CARACAS, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese enterprises operating in Venezuela have donated more than 115 tonnes of supplies to Venezuela, according to preliminary statistics from the Chinese embassy in the South American country.

As of Monday, the aid donated includes food, drinking water, daily necessities, construction equipment, medicine and other medical supplies.

In addition, more than 200 tonnes of supplies will be shipped in batches to the reception points designated by the Venezuelan authorities from Wednesday through Friday. Chinese enterprises in Venezuela plan to purchase and donate more supplies as the situation evolves.

Following the powerful earthquakes that recently struck Venezuela, multiple Chinese engineering enterprises voluntarily dispatched construction machinery and equipment and deployed professional teams to the disaster zone for rescue operations.

Two cranes have been put into emergency rescue work, staffed by at least eight workers, while two excavators, 10 containers and two emergency generators remain ready to be deployed.

China has decided to offer additional aid worth 100 million yuan (about 14.67 million U.S. dollars) to Venezuela for post-quake relief and reconstruction, following the cash assistance it had already provided, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Monday.

On Tuesday, Venezuela's acting president Delcy Rodriguez expressed her gratitude for the Chinese government's solidarity with the Venezuelan people in the face of the tragedy.
